Sano Bhorle Nepal

Our 2020 Christmas appeal paid for the construction of a health clinic at Sano Bhorle, Nepal. The Health Post provides first response assistance, medicines, basic dental care, ante- and post-natal support, and health and hygiene education for five villages in a remote mountainous farming area north of Kathmandu in Nepal. Previously, villagers had to make a costly and lengthy trip to see a doctor – or, in many cases, try to ride out infections and injuries, which often led to a deterioration in their conditions. The project was overseen by Justin Wickham (the son of OWG members) of Learning Planet. Throughout, villagers and the local health authorities were closely consulted; and the land, and much of the labour, was donated by villagers. The local health authority was so impressed by the quality of the building and facilities that it decided to provide two staff, instead of the one which had been promised – a midwife/nurse and a general health professional.

Christmas Appeal 2022

Our 2022 Christmas appeal paid for the construction by Mission Africa of two new classrooms at the Joanna Memorial School in Nakaseke, in the central region of Uganda. This enabled the school to expand from 130 pupils to 210. Previously, the children had nowhere to go to school. Maize, bean and banana crops are grown to feed the children, using a large kitchen suitable for the expanded numbers. Teaching staff are paid by a combination of small fees from parents and funding from Mission Africa.

Mindanao

Our Christmas Appeal 2017 was for a three classroom high school in the mountainous tribal area of Mindanao in the Philippines. The local people used land and trees donated by the tribe to build the school. Students previously had to travel long distances to stay at, and attend, a high school. The new school enables them to be educated locally, which helps to preserve the village, the families and their farming.
